Study from Pont Royal in Paris, 1858–1861
David Jacobsen
Oil on panel
A pale, wintry Seine embankment with figures crossing the bridge by the Tuileries.
The Danish painter David Jacobsen sketched the Seine in oils around 1860: pale winter light on the embankment, barges moored below, small figures crossing by the Tuileries. A loose, understated study whose muted greys and soft horizon feel remarkably modern.
