Samsung Frame TV image resizer

Drop in a photo, frame it, and download the exact file your TV wants — 3840 × 2160. Free, no sign-up, and the image never leaves your device.

What the Frame TV actually wants

A Samsung Frame TV is 3840 × 2160 (16:9 UHD). Send it anything else and Samsung's Art Mode will letterbox it or crop it for you, usually straight through the middle of the subject. A JPEG at that exact size, 20 MB max, uploads cleanly from the SmartThings app.

Whatever you drop in, you get a file at the full 3840 × 2160 — smaller images are scaled up to fit, so the TV never has to do its own stretching. Scaling up can't invent detail, though: start from the biggest version of the picture you have and it will hold up across the whole screen.

Why the exact size matters

Art Mode only offers the full set of matte styles — including No Mat — on an image at the native panel size. Send it anything else and the options grey out, which is the usual reason a photo that looks right on a phone arrives on the TV with a border nobody chose.

The harder problem is shape, not pixels. A Frame TV is 16:9 and most paintings are not: of the 100 works here, 5 are wider than 16:9 and 44 are square or taller. We measured every one, and for the tall ones a mat beats a full-bleed crop every time.

Common questions

What is the recommended image size for a Samsung Frame TV?
Exactly 3840 × 2160 pixels — 4K UHD, 16:9. Save it as a JPEG or PNG under 20 MB. Any other size still displays, but the TV decides the crop for you.
How do I resize a photo for the Frame TV?
Drop it into the resizer above, drag to choose what stays in frame, and download. The file comes out at 3840 × 2160 ready for the SmartThings app. Nothing is uploaded — the crop happens in your browser.
What aspect ratio does Frame TV art need?
16:9 landscape. Most paintings are not — of the 100 works in this collection only 5 are wider than 16:9 and 44 are square or taller, so a painting shown full-bleed loses its top and bottom. A mat is usually the better answer for those.
Why are the matte options greyed out on my Frame TV?
Because the image is not exactly 3840 × 2160. Art Mode only offers the full set of matte styles, including No Mat, on an image at the native panel size. Resize it and the options come back.
Can I use a PNG instead of a JPEG?
Yes. Art Mode takes both. JPEG is smaller and uploads faster over SmartThings; PNG is worth it for flat colour and hard edges.
Will a small photo look bad once it is scaled up?
It can. Scaling cannot invent detail, and a Frame TV is viewed from across a room at a metre and a half wide. Start from the largest copy of the picture you have.
